Good News on the Last Day of Legislative Session
April 13, 2009

The legislature has passed HB 893 - the bill needed to continue the transition to paper ballot-based voting with optical scan counting. Governor O'Malley supports this measure so it will become law.

The bill will result in touch screen machines being available in 2010 in a hybrid system where paper ballots and op-scan counters will also be available. This compromise was necessary because the Federal Election Assistance Commission has not yet approved adequate equipment for the disabled.

True Vote will continue to be vigilant, monitoring the process of transition to paper ballot based voting. And, we will keep you informed and call on you when we need your support. There is no question that consistent grass roots support was a critical ingredient to this victory.
