Tell The General Assembly to Keep Paper Ballot Funding in 2009 Budget |
|
Send the letter below to the entire General Assembly IMMEDIATELY to ensure that funding for the switch to paper ballots remains in the upcoming budget for 2009. This will allow Maryland to return to paper ballots for the 2010 elections.

I am writing to urge you to keep funding for a paper-based voting system in the budget. Last year the Senate and House supported legislation that ended paperless voting in Maryland. Now it is time to make the transition.
This is a good budget decision for Maryland in that optical scan voting systems are less expensive to lease than the Diebold paperless system is to maintain.
It is a good election integrity system because Maryland will have a sytem voters can trust because with a paper-based system independent recounts and random audits are available.
We appreciate the past support of the legislature and urge you to fund SB 392, passed last year, so that the transition to paper-based voting with optical scan counting can be completed.
Thank you. |
