Hearing on Paper Ballot for Electronic Voting on
Annapolis, MD. Wednesday, November 30th in Annapolis, the House Ways and Means Committee will be holding a hearing on vetoed election reform bills from 2005, which is also expected to feature the much-rumored 'omnibus election reform bill'.

The hearing will be held in the Joint Hearing room in the Legislative Services building at 1:00 pm.

During the 2005 legislative session, the Governor vetoed a study bill focused on vote verification, while a second bill supported by TrueVoteMD was never brought to vote.  TrueVoteMD plans on speaking in support of legislation for a Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trail during the public testimony period of the hearing.

Since the legislative session, Governor Ehrlich has said he is receptive to a paper trail, and both Democratic gubernatorial candidates Mayor O'Malley and County Executive Duncan have announced their support for a voter verified paper audit trail.  Maryland will be the only state voting statewide without a paper trail (numerous counties around the country also remain without verifiable voting).   26 states now require voter-verified paper ballots to be used with electronic voting machines.
