In California and Georgia, skepticism is quickly growing over the computer systems used to administer elections. The same type of system in question--known as "direct recording electronic" (DRE)--is used in Baltimore City and four Maryland counties, and the entire state is committed to switch to DRE by 2006 ("Future Vote," Dec. 12).
